Her Story..
Don't believe a word Cliff says -- I was ALWAYS interested! When we met, we worked at the same news station in Wilmington. I remember sitting in my bosses office watching his reporter reel and talking about how they might hire him. When he came in for his interview, I was just pulling out from working the night shift as he was pulling in - and I remember thinking "Darn, he's not wearing a bowtie!"
Cliff started working at WWAY in May 2011, where we worked together for just over a year. I had a pretty strict "no dating coworkers" rule but Cliff didn't hide the fact that he was interested!
I played hard to get even after I moved to Birmingham, AL for a new job. I went back to visit my friends in Wilmington one weekend in June and FINALLY admitted that I had a HUGE crush on Cliff! We started talking more and finally made our relationship offficial during a visit the first weekend in August 2012. After a LOT of flights, Skype dates, and phone calls, I made the best decision ever and moved to Raleigh to be closer to him in August 2013. After two years of long distance, I followed him BACK to Wilmington in September 2014 when he quit the news biz got a job with the state. That move turned out to be a pretty good decision!
I remember the first time I saw Laura....it was my first day at WWAY-TV. I remember thinking she was one of the most beautiful girls I'd ever seen. I asked her out what felt like a million times in the year we worked together but she was stubborn and decided she didn't like me until much later. I never forgave her for that (obviously kidding!). I knew she was beautiful, smart and fun but little did I know just how much I would love her!
She finally admitted she liked me after she moved to Birmingham, which did not make things easy. For whatever reason, we decided to give it a shot. We flew back and forth for what seemed like forever. We certainly couldn't afford it, but love makes you do stupid things. I knew for sure she was the one when we spent a great weekend in Atlanta visiting her friends. We did a lot of fun things that weekend, but one night we went to Sun Dial, just her and I, and I looked into her eyes and just knew. It was over for me after that moment.
She made the amazing sacrifice to move back to North Carolina to be closer to me. We spent a year and a half driving from Greenville to Raleigh. I worked at WNCT-TV in Greenville, she worked at Time Warner Cable News in Raleigh. We had different off days and spent our time waiting on the other to get off work. Thanks a lot, television news! After years of not having holidays or weekends, I got a big break and was able to change careers. We decided to move to Wilmington together, then it was really over.
I bought the ring pretty much as soon as I moved to Wilmington. I had an elaborate proposal plan which she nearly messed up but you've already heard all about that. It was perfect. She is perfect.
